After reading Jane Johnson's The Tenth Gift, I never thought another book would be so enjoyable. But The Salt Road was so full of wonderful characters and ambiance and culture and romance and suspense with the most surprising ending. It's so fun reading books that contain all these elements and also are so satisfying at the end. I can't stop thinking about this one!

I really loved this book until the end. I particularly liked how I felt immersed in the rich world of Morocco and Berber culture. However, the" happily ever after " type of ending was really jarring to me, almost like it was written by another author. I would have given this 5 stars with a ending that fitted the story better
I loved The Tenth Gift and The Sultan's Wife. This third book, difficult to find in the USA (thank you !), was another terrific read. Johnson has a talent for weaving intriguing stories. In both The Tenth Gift and The Salt Road she weaves together characters in different eras. It's tough to lay down and tough to finish. You don't want to exit the story world.
I loved this book, it's a great read and gives one a small taste of the life and culture of it's characters. This was the first of Jane Johnson's books that I read and have subsequently purchased and enjoyed all of them.
Remarkable story, completely different from what i expected when i began reading. I was enthralled by the characters, the scenery, the compelling story right until the last moment.
Author has Such a knack of bringing to life the place where the story takes place, I.e., the country, people's, culture, etc. Fascinating the need! In this story she's intertwined the lives of two women & does an amazing job and of it. Great read!!
I really did not care for this book. I loved her first book and really thought I would love this one as well, but alas it was difficult to read at times and no where near as good as her other book.
Second book by the author of The Tenth Gift which improved on the minor weaknesses of that first book. It's one of those wonderful books you just live in and hate to see end. I think this would be a different setting for most readers and gives a point of view and information that would be new to many. I highly recommend this book and author.
