During this year, for the first time in my life, I was enrolled in college, pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education, specializing in Mathematics. I have been teaching Mathematics for well over ten years now. So, my roles have merged as teacher and student. I am a teacher during the days and a student in the evenings. I write notes on the board and talk and give out assignments and mark books. I write notes from the board and listen and do my assignments and smile as my work gets checked. It dawned on me that for most of my life, in most things that I have done prior, I have been untrained – and yet, I have excelled! I have always wondered what it would have been like if I had gone the regular route immediately after high school, straight to college then on to a job, et cetera. Perhaps, I would now have vastly more material possessions but I believe other areas of my life would have come up lacking. Of course, there is no telling what exactly could have been. We can only speculate. I have no regrets. This is a new and exciting chapter in my life, where my official tertiary training begins. And so, I reflect on my untrained life so far; my very accomplished and intuitive and exciting untrained life.
