I have to say while this book wasn't my favorite, it was a really great read! The plot has twists and turns making it a complete page turner.
An adopted teenage girl, Sky, begs her mom to send to public school for her senior year, instead of being home-schooled again. Her reputation precedes her and although the rumors aren't necessarily true, she allows other students to think what they wish. She meets Holder in the grocery store after he mistook her for someone else. There's something about how intense and passionate Holder is, that terrifies her yet also intrigues her. He has his own reputation, for being a jerk with anger issues and the rumors are, that he spent the last year in juvi. But when shes around him, she finds herself feeling things that she never thought she could ever feel. As time goes on, she discovers that there's more to Holder than he lets on and the memories of her past life before she was adopted begins to surface. As the secrets all start to unfold, she finds out things that will impact the life she once knew forever and to her surprise she finds out that Holder knows a lot of answers to the questions that she has about her forgotten past.
The full story is told from Sky's POV only; however, the writing is so phenomenal that you're still able to feel the passion, the sadness, the anguish and pain coming from the other characters right along with Sky. The final revelation is unexpected and Sky must choose whether or not she will be able to forgive and move on or hold people accountable for their actions.  “Sometimes you have to choose between a bunch of wrong choices and no right ones. You just have to choose which wrong choice feels the least wrong.†- Holder.Â
While I wanted to love this book as much I do the other books that Colleen Hoover writes, I'm just not a big fan of the Young Adult romance genre. Which is totally my fault, because if I would've read the blurb prior to reading the book, I would've known better. This plot is super heavy and includes real life situations that, unfortunately, some people have gone through. The secrets that are revealed leaves you devastated but somehow humor is mixed in at just the right times to lighten things up. The support that Sky receives, gives you hope... Hope that one day you can move on after tragedy, hope that you can love after pain, hope that you can forgive after betrayal and most of all, hope for another day.
Definitely recommend to young adults! As always, happy reading! -)

It is 2am on a work night, but I COULD NOT put this book down. I have important meetings to attend to this morning, but I don't care because I just had to finish this book. What an emotional ride this was. One of the sweetest, saddest young adult romances I've ever read.
I just finished another new adult romance by Tijan, and was totally disappointed in that book because it was so over the top angsty when there really was no reason to be. The dramatic situations in this story was very well written without feeling so OTT that it felt eye-rollingly unbelievable, but instead felt like the tragedies could be true. I'm laying here in the dark typing my review on my and I'm STILL trying to comprehend all I've read.
Also, I usually hate flashbacks, but the author did such an amazing job with utilizing that technique to draw me into the story and create suspense. She wrote just enough flashbacks to give us a glimpse of Sky's childhood which was an important part of the story.
I own this book along with the audiobook. I read this book while listening to the audiobook and I was blown away with the narration! The pleasant voice of the narrator, the rhythm, the characters voices, and how she even whispered some of the sentences really made this book come alive for me even at 2.5x the normal speed (I actually read much, much faster than this which is one of the reasons I am not usually a fan of audio books!).
Even knowing I own both the kindle and audible, this book may never be a re-read for me unlike say Kristen Ashley, Julie Garwood, or Tara Sivec books, but, believe me, this story will stay with me for a long time and will consciously (or even subconsciously) be used as a yardstick to measure future books. Well done, Ms. Hoover, well done!
I've heard a lot that it is best to go into Colleen's books blind, so that's what I did. I went into this book completely not knowing what to expect. I wasn't sure what to expect while reading this book, but wow. I went on one hell of an emotional roller coaster. I don't think I've ever had so many conflicting feelings all at once about a book before. There were parts of this book that I absolutely hated and there were parts that I loved so much.
I'm still wrapping my head around everything that happened to Sky. She went through some terrible, horrible, unspeakable, heartbreaking things that no one should ever have to endure. I am so proud of Sky though for her journey throughout the book and growing as a person and ultimately starting to heal.
I was torn back and forth about Holder for a while. I wasn't sure how I felt about him at first and some of the behaviors that he displayed were really confusing. Once everything started to come together though and answers were revealed, everything made sense. I love Holder and am so glad that he was there for Sky. He's exactly who she needed to be able to get through everything.
Even though this book deals with some difficult topics and some parts were really hard to read and get through, I'm still glad I read it. I'm also glad I read the book blind, going into it without knowing anything about it. I think that just makes the experience of reading a Colleen Hoover book that much better.
