The Society reminds me of the movie the skulls in many ways except it is ya and not adult. We have the secret society that shuns others and has everyone wanting in. A society that gives you the ticket to your future but is also cruel and gets away with alot. We have the girl on the outside who was once one of the wanna bets for this society. Her life is turned upside down by her dad and she is now on the outside and being ostracized.

Ostracized by ex best friend Jessica who runs the Society and after one to many humiliating moments Sam decides to get back at Jessica in a pretty diabolical way. She intends to have Jessica feel the humiliation and shame that she has felt. How? By messing with Hell week of the Society.

You can see and in a way understand why Sam has to do this but you don’t really like it. And neither does the sweet and amazing Jeremy who has been with Sam no matter what. He is her rock but when he sees this plan they do drift a little. He can’t support this and you can’t blame him.

During this time where they are apart a little Sam does make some very bad decisions. She lets go of herself but in a way if she didn’t she wouldn’t grow and learn more about herself. It is in this time she meets Ransom and while with him turns into someone she doesn’t like. She also learns that she loves Jeremy.

As each plan is enacted, Sam loses a little bit more of herself but gains something as well. She learns that she wants to be better. Someone that is strong. She does give up on her revenge but the act may be to late. When all is done, she does learn to become a better person and does the right thing. She even is lucky to get Jeremy. Jeremy who even when he wasn’t there for her was in so many ways. he is her support rock and what was missing as she journeyed into her own dark world only to see him waiting for her at the end.

This is a interesting and intriguing look at bullying and how some can make you feel like nothing when you are really something. How you sometimes can break and let others take control only to need to feel some kind of retribution but realize that that is not who you are. To find the strength to become the person that you are meant to be and not let others win and bring you down. To find the light at the end of the darkness and have the one person there at the end that shows you love, patience and kindness. This Sam had in Jeremy and her Aunt and with those two by her side she was able to find herself and who she wanted to be. A well written interesting take on bullying, revenge, doing the right thing and surviving only to come out stronger.

The Society edition by Jodie Andrefski Children eBooks Reviews

This was a
Interesting. Book from A child's perspective. Things like this donthappenveryW

Often. Book was good but it

Didn't really surprise me.
This book was really good and quick to finish. I liked the fact that it didn't make revenge look glamorous, Samantha owned up to her mistakes at the end and made the right choices.
Ended with very few questions answered. There were some major plot points that were left unresolved. Overly detailed in many places.
I gave up on this one because while the characters were okay the situation they were putting themselves into was unreal for me - a snotty clique in an upscale school - and yet still fraught with unnecessary risk for "innocent" fellow students. I didn't trust the judgement of the main character who was providing the viewpoints we were told about.
Didn't really like it. Nothing happened to the 'bad' characters, who were just as much to blame for the incidents as the heroine. She seemed to bear the brunt of all the punishment and nothing really happened to the others. Bullying is a serious issue in today's society and it was like everything the bully did was ignored and allowed and no one helped the heroine so she was driven to what she does, and then punished for it. Great promise in the plot, but failed to live up to it.
Other people may enjoy this book, but I found it disturbing. A society bullies a girl so she bullies back. In this day and age, this type of book shouldn't even be something we consider reading.. Granted the male protagonist talks her out of it, but my overall view of this girl was that she lacked good character. I think the author could have developed her a bit better and lightened her character up a bit. I know that she had a lot thrown at her at the beginning of the book, but she took the wrong direction after that. I chalked this one up to "better luck next time". I won't avoid the author, but I will carefully read the reviews before I buy the next time.
Teen angst with a positive twist. When a teenage girl's comfortable life comes crashing down around her ears, her former best friend becomes a formidable enemy, bullying her mercilessly and depriving her of any quality of life. She deals with both old and new friends, with enemies, with school administrators sans merci and without understanding, as well as with folks who have no idea of the myriad challenges facing her as she tries to advance into maturity. Backbone and character, however, serve her well and help her move toward a future that is not without hope. Well done and enjoyable at any age.
