This book contains A lovely "easy read" story without condescending childlike words. Perfect, slightly larger text (16x font). 7 Short chapters. Short paragraphs. One extra space between each sentence to encourage the mind to take pause. 2 to 3 gorgeous full-color photos per each chapter to give a visual clue to the subject matter without distracting the read.
Down by the Meadow is a light, happy read that centers on a woman's urge to see something, anything new. She heads down by the meadow, allowing the reader to experience magnificent sunny meadow views, a darling young sparrow bird, breathtaking wild Red Campion flowers and a deer with her fawn. Upon returning, she finds both an appreciation for the comfort of the 'same old, same old' and a renewed joy for what Mother Nature has to offer.

I bought this book for my elderly mother-in-law who has Dementia and lives in at a Memory Care facility. Her Dementia is in the middle stages where she still knows who we are most of the time but she needs a lot of direction, and help with dressing and personal care. She has been having trouble to read her normal favorite books like novels or inspirational publications.This book is extremely easy to read, it is written very simply so she can understand, follow and comprehend. A couple days after I gave the book to my mother-in-law, I asked she had read it yet. Her face lit up and she said "Oh yes I've read it many times already! It is just so wonderful, it takes me on a beautiful journey". In other words, she absolutely loves it and you could see the joy in her eyes.
I only give four stars because it is overpriced for a thin book like this. While I think the length of the book in terms of reading is just right and the quality of the book is nice, I feel that it's way too expensive for what you get. However, I will order other books from this author and line of books, because it really resonates with my mother-in-law and her current mental stage.
I plan to bring her more of these books by Emma Rose Sparrow and remove her old books, which I know in my heart will eliminate a lot of frustration when she wants to read but can't and instead will have a choice of easy to read stories which will make her feel accomplished and still able to do things.

I was hesitant at first to purchase, but my mother (who has stage 5 Alzheimer's) can still read this book. I believe the sentence structure and topics are appropriate for this level of dementia. Plus, it does not say "for memory-impaired" anywhere on the cover or inside of the book.
Great book!
I purchased this book because we already own all of the others in the series, and over the past year these have become my nana’s favorite books. I am so glad there are more for her to read because it is difficult to find books for dementia that are for the patient and not just the caregiver. They are always by her seat and she is able to pick them up whenever she feels like reading and can follow along unlike some of the books she used to be able to read.
