Flight 12 is quite an event that has been put together by 12 talented authors. Once a month a new story is released by one of the authors, and the link between stories is that characters from each one will end up on Flight 12. Then a final book will be released to end the story, complete with input from readers. It's a great idea and certainly one that deserves to succeed. This story is a quick read, and the first one in the series (I understand they are up to number 4 as I write this). A young FBI agent, Kristen Cunningham, is taken from her boring desk job and given an undercover role in a sting designed to catch a low-life crook. It was quite a cool story line that had me hooked, but I did have a bit of trouble believing in the main character. I know her backstory included an injury from a mission to protect the President, plus six years of field experience ... but I still didn't find her that believable (sorry peeps). Maybe I missed some early clues on her talent and abilities, but I didn't really have a lot of confidence in her suitability for the job. Or ... it may just have been because she was young enough to pass as a young teen in the sting, that I felt she would be too young to have any real hardened experience under her belt. But, putting those reservations aside, I did feel that the story improved once she got out of the office and the sting was underway, although it wasn't a gripping thriller. As I mentioned, it wasn't a long read, and I'm sure that if the story was longer, the author would have been able to build the tension and action to make it more intense. You'll need to keep in mind that it's not a full novel, it's only one part of a much bigger picture.
Although I think it’s a great idea for this collection of stories to merge and climax in one final story, I'm not sure at this point that I'm in for the rest. At only about 80 pages, it definitely wasn't a long read, but it did cost the same as a full novel (around $3.99). Given that there will be 12 of these short stories under the banner of Flight 12, it would end up costing close to $50 to buy them all. That's quite a cost to see the story all the way through.
In a nutshell: I know it’s a short story, and part of a bigger plot, but I felt that it needed more tension, drama and a more believable main character. It’s a great concept. Full marks to the authors for putting together something that is such a great idea and different to the norm. 3 stars for the story and an extra one for the concept.
Note: I don’t claim to be a pro-reviewer, I am a reader. My reviews are based on my personal thoughts around the story that the book is trying to tell. I try to focus on the story (which is the reason I read) rather than dissect the book and pass comment on typos, writing style or structure.

FLIGHT 12 A KRISTIN CUNNINGHAM THRILLER FLIGHT 12 is a truly fast paced suspense book giving the readers a story that is totally hard to figure out until the end. Kristin Cunningham is an experienced FBI agent who was shot in the line of duty one year earlier. In an unsuccessful assassination attempt on President Cartwright, Kristen took a bullet shattering her knee. Kristin knee Rehab is keeping her out of any field assignments. Special Agent in Charge Keith Thompson is keeping Kristen on desk duty. Suspense begins when agents in Boston Field Office capture Ivan Lukyanov, i a member of the Russian Odessa Mafia dealing in human trafficking. When SAC Thompson learns that Ivan will help break up the Russian organization with the arrest of the leader, Dimitri Kobachev, Thompson asks Kristin to go in undercover posing as a young woman Ivan has kidnapped. When Kristin agrees, Leverone increases the suspense, danger, and thrills up to the highest level. They give Ivan a car and the opportunity be alone with Kristin bound with duct tape, as he drives to the meet Ivan double crosses the other FBI agents and escapes with FBI Agent Cunningham as his hostage. We follow Lukyanov's escape with Kristin as his hostage. Leverone keeps increasing the danger to Kristin's life as Ivan Lukyanov continues his escape and prepares to leave the country. Kristin is amazed with at Ivan's well organized escape plans. Ivan has to get to New York without being caught, dispose of Kristin and go the JFK Airport to catch Flight 12 to Rome. The story changes direction at every turn and the unpredictable actions of Ivan and Kristin. Flight 12 is scheduled to leave for Rome at Midnight. I enjoyed this well written suspenseful story by Allan Leverone keeping readers at the edge of their seats. I look forward to seeing who gets to board Flight 12 in the next 11 stories presented by the group of authors known as THE TWELVE. Each author contributes a story that builds toward a very unpredictable ending. I rank this story with a well earned 5 stars. The story concept is intriguing, but I think the details of the process are vague and I had to search for the details to find comfort with each of the authors of THE TWELVE writing a story around a favorite character and everyone including the readers having input on the ending. I look forward to the final story.
This was amazing! There was tons of action and twists. BUT I was a little disappointed.
Possible spoiler alert!!!
From the way it was described in the forward I thought that each of the books was going to be a different character explaining what happened to Flight 12 from their point of view. So far (I've read this one and the next 2) it hasn't been that way at all. No one has even made it on the plane yet. Don't get me wrong. The books are still great and maybe later on in the series it will turn out that they are going to be telling it from several characters point of view (in different books) on the plane but I wish it had been made a little more clear that each book was not going to be entirely about the Flight. In fact, the 2nd book in the series (the Laura Cardinal thriller by J. Carson Black) just had a tiny blurb about it at the end of the book almost as if it was thrown in as an afterthought. The 3rd book was better, the Flight was mentioned throughout the book but still none of the main characters have made it aboard the Flight.
So I feel a little ripped off. The authors could have explained it more clearly instead of leading us on. However, it is still introducing me to some great authors and opening me up to new series (which is probably what they hoped for) and I have a lot more on my TBR list now -)
